NOS contains about 260 mg of caffeine or the same as 2.6 cups of espresso coffee. Coffee tends to be a diuretic in some people but routine use tends to create tolerance to this. Caffeine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI) or anti-cholinesterase. It is a chemical that inhibits the acetylcholinesterase enzyme from breaking down acetylcholine, thereby increasing both the level and duration of action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. (Wikipedia)
It would appear that high doses of caffeine would make the examinee more attentive and would appear to increase EDA tracing size and duration, neither of which would be helpful to someone attempting to diminish their reactions to the relevant questions or increase differentially, their reactions to the comparison questions.
I'm certainly no chemist or physiologist and don't play one on TV. But just from reading and making an asumption, I'd say caffeine is not a good CM drug.
The other primary drug in NOS is Taurine (2000 mg in the 16 oz can)
Taurine, in some studies has been shown to possibly improve heart function because it seems to lower blood pressure and calm the sympathetic nervous system, which is often too active in people with high blood pressure. (WebMD). Again, logically, this substance, even in high does, would not appear to differentially reduce reactions in the cardiovascular tracing, although it might lower the stress levels of the examinee.
Taken together it would appear the caffeine might counteract, to some extent, the Taurine's effects.
Just my opinion.
